Macrobiotic Diet Review – healthy weight loss plan but not easy

The Macrobiotic Diet is much more than just a weight loss plan. It is a way of life where followers are guided to adopt a new way of life that integrates physical and spiritual health. The name of the Macrobiotic Diet is derived from the Greek word “macro” meaning large or long, and “bios” meaning life. So – a diet designed for a long life. The term “macrobiotics” was first used by Hippocratus, the father of Western Medicine, to describe people who were healthy and long-lived.

George Ohsawa, a Japanese philosopher, developed the original Macrobiotic Diet and philosophy. He took his teachings over to the United States in the 1950s. Michio Kushi, one of Ohsawa’s pupils later refined and popularized this diet. The Kushi Institute was opened in Boston in 1978. Kushi and his wife, Aveline Kushi, published a number of books on the Macrobiotic Diet.

Followers of the Macrobiotic Diet believe there is a strong relationship between food and the mind, body and spirit – and that our lives really are affected in many ways by what we eat, when we eat, and how we eat. The nutritional approach this diet is based on is in essence a low fat, high fiber diet; emphasizing locally grown whole grains and vegetables with plenty of beans and soy products. The basic vegetarian diet is supplemented by small amounts of fish, nuts and fruit. Macrobiotics discourages the use of processed or refined foods and clearly identifies refined sugar as one of the major culprits in the modern diet.

The Macrobiotic Diet goes as far as to prescribe different foods for different seasons, and for different times of the day. Food must be chosen to ensure a balance between yin and yang as per the eastern philosophy. Yin foods are described as cooling and include most fruit and vegetables. Yang foods are regarded as warming foods and include most animal products, fish, coffee, chocolate, ham and wine. Sweeter food generally holds more yin energy, while salty food contains the yang. Extremes to both sides (yin and yang) are to be avoided and foods must be selected from the middle range. Even though it is a largely vegetarian lifestyle, Macrobiotics also allows for fish and some animal products, and is therefor described as a “flexitarian” lifestyle.

This is probably one of the worst diets ever to have seen the light of day. The hCG Diet is really a very unhealthy fad diet to follow and the way this diet is designed leaves the field wide open for scam artists and unscrupulous vendors to take advantage of so many people battling obesity.

First things first, let’s understand how this diet is supposed to work. On the hCG Diet you are required to to restrict your food intake to 500-800 calories per day, which is dangerously low if you keep in mind that diets allowing for 1200 calories per day are already considered to be very low calorie diets. While on this diet you will receive daily injections of hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin), or you will take hCG in oral form. hCG is a hormone produced during pregnancy; initially by the developing embryo and later on by a part of the placenta. It is believed hCG plays a role in programming the hypothalamus to protect lean muscle and mobilize the use of stored body fat for energy. hCG is manufactured using extracts from the urine of pregnant women.

The Cabbage Soup Diet Review – It Works But

The Cabbage Soup Diet is similar in concept to the Master Cleanse Diet. Any weight lost will include fat, but also water weight and lean muscle mass. Due to the very low calorie content of the diet, dieters are typically advised to limit the time they remain on this diet to one week at a time. It is generally recommended by most advocates of these weight loss plans that dieters wait a while (2-3 weeks) before commencing another week on this super-low-calorie diet, even if they do have more weight to lose.

Weight Watchers is one of those diets that never goes away. It has become a familiar beacon in a sea of fad diets and miracle cures. In 1960 Burroughs was also convicted of practicing medicine without a license.

Book Review: The APO E Gene Diet by Pamela McDonald

I am not really much of a diet fan, my weight has never been an issue, I have been a 148lbs dripping wet for the past 35 years. I eat whatever I want, when I want. But as Pamela McDonald explains diet is not merely a method for controlling weight, but has a significant influence on health and quality of life.The world is full of fad diets, most of which make me cringe. I am sure it cannot be so, but I seems to me that a popular one preaches the virtues of meats and fats, while certainly meat and fat are important aspects of nutrition, I can hardly imagine that living on fried bacon would be a good way to lose weight and promote good overall health. Likewise a steady diet of cabbage soup would likely become somewhat monotonous after a couple of days.

Pamela McDonald takes a different approach, there is no one size fits all diet, different people need different things. Although all humans are intrinsically composed of the same material, the building blocks, our genes, are subtlety different. In decoding our DNA researchers in recent years have found small inconsistencies in people’s DNA that make them more susceptible to specific health conditions.
